Sean`s goal is stopping Falkirk

Sean Murdoch seeking back to back victories over Derby opponents

Pars keeper Sean Murdoch is pleased that he will have a match to play in this weekend. He looked back on the last match before discussing the enforced changes for the Cup tie at The Falkirk Stadium.

"We felt that we never played to our potential, we didn`t do what we are good at enough on Saturday. Fair play to Dundee United they had a game plan and they stuck to it very well. They were effective."

Sean who made his 100th Dunfermline start in that match against United, is pragmatic in as much as the season is only eight games old, it is a long season and it is already really tight at the top.

The international break is filled by the Irn Bru Cup tie away to Falkirk and the Pars keeper is a puzzled as everyone else about the kind of team that will line up in front of him:-

"He might give some players a chance. We are short in numbers but we have a good squad capable of winning the game. It will maybe give some people who have not played much a chance to shine. We have good depth in the squad so hopefully they can stake a claim.

"It is good to get international recognition for some of our players, it is well deserved. It is the first time that we have had five international call ups. It is going to be an unusual defence. It will be different but we are all capable and we know our jobs. As long as people do their jobs we will be fine."

Sean endorsed the club`s decision to go ahead with the fixture despite the lack of numbers:-

"We want a game on a Saturday, we don`t want to be playing midweek where you play three games in one week. Sometimes that can take its toll. Everyone is looking forward to it, we didn`t want the weekend off."

Although Paul Hartley doesn`t take over the managerial role at Falkirk from Alex Smith until after the Cup tie, the very fact that he will be watching from the stand will create a desire from the Falkirk players to impress their new manager. Sean feels that they will be up for it but so too will the Fifers.

"It is a derby, it doesn`t matter what competition it is, we want to win. Whatever team we put out, we will be sent out to win the game."

Coming just seven weeks after the Pars defeated the Bairns 3-1 at East End Park there is little doubt that revenge for that will be one of the motives for Falkirk to reach the next round. Sean reflected:-

"It was another good day for us and they will probably look back upon that and think that they were pretty poor as we beat them quite comfortably at the end of the day. They might want a bit of revenge and get one over us. We will go into the game full of confidence and hopefully get a victory."

That meeting on 19th August was Dunfermline`s first win over Falkirk since the Championship winning season 2010-2011 came after a clinical start from the Pars. A bizarre second half where Falkirk were reduced to nine men. Sean continued:-

"Some of the sending offs were silly, both for violent conduct and looking back on them they were really poor sending offs. Sometimes you can lose your head, especially when you are 2-0 down and don`t see a way back into the game. We have all been there ourselves."
